## Recipes

Cooking recipes that we love and have tried.

- [Artisan Bread](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/artisan-bread.md)

This recipe provides a simple method for making delicious artisan bread with minimal effort, primarily requiring time for a long, slow rise.
- [Aubergines with Tomato and Yoghurt](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/aubergines-tomato-and-yoghurt.md)

This is a recipe from the cookbook "Favorite Indian Food" by Diane Seed. And boy it is sooooo good. I serve it with rice and salad and I always hope for leftovers.
- [Bacon-wrapped Brussel Sprouts](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/bacon-wrapped-brussel-sprouts.md)

This was our Thanksgiving Day appetizer and stole the show. Sorry Mr. Turkey!
- [Banana Split](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/banana-split.md)

Extremely quick, easy and yummy dessert.
- [Basic Bread](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/basic-bread.md)

The secret of this basic bread dough is that flour is added to the liquids, rather than the other way round, which is what most regular bread recipes call for.
- [Basler Leckerli](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/basler-leckerli.md)

Rich honey and sugar form the base for these Swiss spiced biscuits, studded with almonds and candied citrus peel. A hint of Kirsch and a delicate powdered sugar glaze complete these chewy, flavorful treats.
- [Bitchin' Sauce, original flavor](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/bitchin-sauce-original-flavor.md)

We support a family business which creates those three wonderfully flavored Bitchin' Sauces. We discovered them at our Farmer's Market. Every weekend when we're at the Farmer's Market we buy this amazing sauce.
- [Blackberry Sorbet](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/blackberry-sorbet.md)

The blackberry bushes growing along the fence of my apartment complex are overflowing with ripe berries, so I froze half of the ones I picked, intending to keep them for use in smoothies and/or berry pies/crumbles in the fall.
- [Cantonese Superior Soy Sauce Noodles](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/cantonese-superior-soy-sauce-noodles.md)

From J. Kenji López-Alt’s The Wok comes this recipe for Cantonese Superior Soy Sauce Noodles. It’s a classic dim sum dish characterized by its smoky aroma (wok hei) and a mix of textures between the crispy noodles and tender vegetables.
- [Chai](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/chai.md)

There are an abundant amount of different chai recipes. This one I tried yesterday for the first time and I love it.
- [Chai Latte](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/chai-latte.md)

One of our favorite teas, this one is perfect for any time of the day. It is also a wonderful replacement for coffee!
- [Cheese Crackers](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/cheese-crackers.md)

This recipe offers a quick and easy way to make dairy-free, cheesy crackers using a food processor. Simply combine flour, oil, nutritional yeast, and water to form a dough, then cut into thin shapes and bake until golden and crunchy.
- [Cheese Scones](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/cheese-scones.md)

These savory cheese scones are a delightful twist on a classic, perfect for a quick snack or alongside a meal. Packed with cheddar or your favorite melting cheese, they offer a satisfyingly cheesy bite.
- [Chocolate Cream Cake](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/chocolate-cream-cake.md)

A great cake recipe with non-dairy cream that's better than its dairy siblings.
- [Chräbeli (Anise cookies)](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/chrabeli-anise-cookies.md)

This is another traditional Christmas cookie we love, which is distinctively flavored with anise seeds. The simple dough is shaped into small, cut pieces and then left to dry overnight.
- [Congestion / cough / flu Tea](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/congestion-cough-flu-tea.md)

This tea works better for us than most over-the-counter medicines, and it tastes really nice. We often prepare it just for the enjoyment.
- [Fire-roasted Salsa](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/fire-roasted-salsa.md)

Ripe tomatoes, onion, and garlic are roasted in an unoiled pan until slightly burnt, creating a rich, smoky base for this versatile salsa.
- [Focaccia ](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/focaccia.md)

This focaccia recipe relies on a long, cold fermentation for an exceptionally pillowy and airy crumb. With just four ingredients and minimal hands-on time, it's an approachable yet impressive bread perfect for any occasion.
- [Gewürzschnittli (Spice squares)](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/gewurzschnittli-spice-squares.md)

Traditionally in Switzerland we bake at least 4 different kinds of Christmas cookies during the Holidays. Our family does about 6 kinds.
- [Homemade Gyros](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/homemade-gyros.md)

Delicious Greek Gyros topped with a fresh Tzatziki yogurt sauce.
- [Italian Tomato Salad](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/italian-tomato-salad.md)

This is my favorite tomato salad, and trust me, that is no small feat: I LOVE tomatoes and eat them by the pound when they are in season (preferably fresh-picked from the garden). This is a true Italian recipe out of a cookbook Mom bought in Italy.
- [Late Summer Harvest Pasta](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/late-summer-harvest-pasta.md)

Dad and I came up with this while he was visiting this weekend. It is delicious! We decided on the title because the veggies in it are all in season right now.
- [Lebkuchen (Swiss Ginger Bread)](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/lebkuchen-swiss-ginger-bread.md)

This traditional Lebkuchen recipe yields a chewy gingerbread with a rich, spiced flavor.
- [Lemon Curd](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/lemon-curd.md)

This is my version of a wonderful lemon curd. Eat it or spread it onto fresh baked bread, scones, or whatever you fancy. Don't skimp on the lemon juice or zest!
- [Lemon-baked Rainbow Trout](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/lemon-baked-rainbow-trout.md)

Lacking parsley and a barbeque, I came up with my own version of Jamie Oliver's "Grandad Ken's Crispy Grilled Trout with Parsley and Lemon" recipe.
- [Mamma Pia Cake](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/mamma-pia-cake.md)

Try this cake. It's so wonderfully delicious!
- [Meringues](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/meringues.md)

This is the first time ever that I successfully baked meringues. The trick is to bake them for a long time in low heat. I usually bake everything on 400 F.
- [Mexican Spiced Ground Turkey](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/mexican-spiced-ground-turkey.md)

Perfect for any Mexican meal! Use this as a filling for burritos and tacos or as a topping for nachos.
- [Mini Fruit Tarts with Lime Cream](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/mini-fruit-tarts-lime-cream.md)

These are perfect for a light and healthy summer dessert. They can be made using any kind of fresh fruit (go to the farmer's market to see what is in season!) and if you'd prefer a warm version of this, feel free to stew the fruit until soft.
- [Mixed Salad](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/mixed-salad.md)

Don't get stuck on salads with just lettuce. When making salads, let your imagination go wild. Use whatever ingredients you have and which strike your fancy! The more colorful, the better!
- [Nantucket Granola à la Pia](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/nantucket-granola-la-pia.md)

A variation of a delicious granola Pia found in a magazine years ago, which in turn is based on the traditional way granola is made on the island of Nantucket.
- [Nectarine Tart with Orange Syrup](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/nectarine-tart-orange-syrup.md)

Knitting club meets once a month. That gives me an opportunity to bake something. In August, this was the cake I baked and everybody loved it!
- [Nussknusperli](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/nussknusperli.md)

This recipe provides an easy method for making delicious Swiss Christmas cookies.
- [Orange Chicken](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/orange-chicken.md)

I love orange chicken. In this particular recipe I added much more orange, ginger, and garlic than most recipes to make it mouth watering and delicious.
- [Orange Marmalade](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/orange-marmalade.md)

This easy orange marmalade recipe uses a time-old technique of letting the chopped fruit soak overnight, which is key to drawing out pectin and mellowing its bitterness.
- [Pan-fried Romano beans with tomato, olives, and feta](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/pan-fried-romano-beans-tomato-olives-and-feta.md)

A really tasty vegan dish that satisfies everyone. For us this is an instant keeper.
- [Pia's Garbanzo Bean Soup](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/pias-garbanzo-bean-soup.md)

A few weeks ago we had a heavenly garbanzo bean soup in a small café in Fallbrook. I tried to recreate the same soup. I did not achieve this but created another really delicious soup. Very satisfying on an empty stomach.
- [Popcorn Seasoned with Nutritional Yeast](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/popcorn-seasoned-nutritional-yeast.md)

An alternative to cheese powders, nutritional yeast as the name states is not only yummy and has taste qualities similar to cheese but is also very healthy.
- [Pumpkin Bread](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/pumpkin-bread.md)

I am sitting here with a cup of green tea called Tribute to the Immortals and enjoy a slice of this delicious cake. I received this recipe from a friend and adopted it.
- [Red Lentil Soup](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/red-lentil-soup.md)

Mom gave me this recipe years ago. It is perfect for a cold fall or winter evening, either as an appetizer or served together with bread as a main dish.
- [Roasted Yams Summer Salad](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/roasted-yams-summer-salad.md)

This is a potato salad I love. I am not a potato salad person, but I had a big potato and yams I had to use up.
- [Rooibos Chai Mix](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/rooibos-chai-mix.md)

This is a caffeine-free chai version, based on the [Chai recipe](http://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/chai-latte) Sarah posted last year - which in turn is a recipe she inherited from Pia, so we're going full circle here.
- [Samosas](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/samosas.md)

This recipe details how to make homemade samosas, featuring a simple dough and a savory potato filling seasoned with ginger, garlic, cumin, and chili.
- [Saturday Morning Scones](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/saturday-morning-scones.md)

This is my take on the Corn Scones recipe from the Moosewood Restaurant Collective. I normally leave out their cornmeal, substituting it with our freshly ground spelt flour.
- [Sesame, Flax & Sunflower Seed Bread](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/sesame-flax-sunflower-seed-bread.md)

This is a fantastic sourdough bread that is not overly complex to prepare and bake.
- [Shrimp Pasta](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/shrimp-pasta.md)

"Marry Me" Shrimp Pasta combine jumbo shrimp and pasta in a luxurious, creamy sauce, boasting robust flavors from sun-dried tomatoes, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, and smoked paprika.
- [Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/soft-chocolate-chip-cookies.md)

Using healthier alternatives to white flour makes it hard to create the traditional soft chewy chocolate chip cookies, but with this recipe I was finally able to achieve it.
- [Spinach, Prosciutto, and Vegan Cheese Filling for Ravioli or Lasagna](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/spinach-prosciutto-and-vegan-cheese-filling-ravioli-or-lasagna.md)

We made this as a filling for ravioli and they were absolutely delicious! They do however stick together if you are not careful, so if you want to take an easier route, just make lasagna instead.
- [Spitzbuben](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/spitzbuben.md)

The name of these cookies means "mischievous boy." The jam peeking out is like a mischievous boy sneaking a peek.
- [Spring Rolls](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/spring-rolls.md)

Though known as an appetizer, we most often eat them for lunch. If you plan to serve them as a main dish, plan on using one time this recipe per adult, so that they get 4 rolls each.
- [Stir Fry Green Beans](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/stir-fry-green-beans.md)

Upon returning to Berkeley after spending 3 months away, I was unable to buy everything I needed to fully restock my apartment, so what was originally intended to be Szechuan Green Beans turned into this. I was quite pleased with the outcome.
- [Swedish Rye Bread](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/swedish-rye-bread.md)

A traditional Swedish Limpa bread that is fragrant, slightly sweet, and infused with citrus and spices. This recipe produces a soft, aromatic loaf perfect for slicing and serving with butter or cheese.
- [Traditional Panang Curry](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/traditional-panang-curry.md)

This recipe provides a straightforward guide to making a traditional Panang Chicken Curry, featuring a rich, nutty, and fragrant sauce. Ready in just 25 minutes, it's a quick and easy dish perfect for a flavorful meal for 2-3 people.
- [Vanilla Sugar](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/vanilla-sugar.md)

This can be used in any recipe instead of vanilla extract. White sugar provides the most neutral taste, but I prefer it with brown sugar (it's so good that I always eat a pinch on its own while baking...).
- [Vanilla Syrup](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/vanilla-syrup.md)

This is wonderful as a topping for desserts or to sweeten and flavor drinks.
- [Vegan Chicken Patties](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/vegan-chicken-patties.md)

Hearty vegan chicken patties are crafted from a flavorful blend of chickpeas, tofu, and chestnuts, enhanced with aromatic herbs and spices.
- [Vegan Fall Barley Salad](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/vegan-fall-barley-salad.md)

This easy, yummy, and healthy recipe creates a vibrant grain salad.
- [Vegan/Vegetarian Tortilla Soup](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/veganvegetarian-tortilla-soup.md)

Potatoes, black beans, and corn add substance to this vegan/vegetarian tortilla soup to make it healthy, filling and absolutely delicious. I promise that no one will miss the chicken that is customarily put into tortilla soup.
- [Vegetable Quiche](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/vegetable-quiche.md)

I am obsessed with vegetables! Every meal, I have this habit to have at least 10 different kinds of vegetables and with this quiche, it is very easy to manage that!
- [Yoghurt and Passionfruit Syrup Cake](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/yoghurt-and-passionfruit-syrup-cake.md)

This recipe is adapted from Donna Hay's recipe from her cookbook "Seasons". Here I put less sugar and substituted freshly ground whole spelt flour for the flour and brown sugar instead of caster sugar.
- [Zimtsterne (Cinnamon Stars)](https://livingwiththewebers.com/recipe/zimtsterne-cinnamon-stars.md)

A traditional Swiss Christmas cookie recipe that was passed down from our grandmothers (and probably their grandmothers).

## Crafts

Craft projects we want to share.

- [Antique Finds](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/antique-finds.md)

Casual browsing at [Wynola Junction Antiques](http://wynolajunction.com/) and [Wynola Farms Marketplace](http://www.wynolafarms.com/) turned into a very productive shopping trip.
- [Art Shelf](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/art-shelf.md)

This is an idea we had for a very long time, but never got around to actually build.
- [Canary Wood Table](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/canary-wood-table.md)

Pia and I had spotted canary wood at Cut & Dried Hardwood (now sadly gone) a few years back, fell in love with its crazy colored stripes, and wanted to create a furniture piece with it. However, for lack of time and energy nothing ever happened.
- [Coffee Bag Seat Cushion](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/coffee-bag-seat-cushion-0.md)

The secret here is how to achieve a snug fit of the coffee bag around the foam without rubbing your knuckles raw as you pull the bag over the foam.
- [Display Frame Update](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/display-frame-update.md)

Inspired by a page sent to us by our dear friend Susi Niederberger I set out to rework the display frame.
- [Gingerbread House 2010](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/gingerbread-house-2010.md)
- [Power LED Lights via USB](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/power-led-lights-usb.md)

I was really tired of the rat's nest of extension cord, wall warts and multiple cables feeding the three 30ft LED strings in our living room.
- [Refurbishing a Brooks Leather Saddle](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/refurbishing-brooks-leather-saddle.md)

First off I have to say that the only reason one should want to restore a Brooks saddle is if the leather is in usable condition.
- [Scrapbook-style Greeting Card](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/scrapbook-style-greeting-card.md)

At the moment I am creating greeting cards. I have a box full of scrap paper, labels and other things I collect from different sources.
- [Versatile Display Frame](https://livingwiththewebers.com/craft/versatile-display-frame.md)

I stole this idea from a flower shop in La Jolla where they had long stems of exotic flowers artfully displayed in a bamboo frame, but I extended the concept. You can put just about anything into this frame, just use your imagination.
